Chartering & Maritime Services

Chartering is one of the areas where experience, market knowledge and commercial judgement can directly affect the profitability of an international trade transaction.

At Veritas, we approach chartering from the perspective of the cargo owner and trader.

Our objective is not simply to find an available vessel. It is to identify the right vessel, at the right commercial terms, with the right counterparties and operational conditions for the cargo involved.

Commercial Understanding Behind Every Fixture

A competitive freight rate is important, but a successful fixture is determined by much more than the headline freight.

Vessel suitability, laycan, loading and discharging conditions, demurrage terms, port restrictions, cargo characteristics, estimated voyage duration, contractual responsibilities and the reliability of the owner can all materially affect the final result of a shipment.

We therefore evaluate chartering decisions as part of the complete commercial transaction.

Our experience in both logistics and international trade enables us to understand not only whether a vessel can perform a voyage, but whether the proposed fixture makes commercial sense for our client.

Independent Expertise, Trusted Market Access

Veritas does not operate as a traditional shipbroking house and does not maintain an in-house brokerage desk.

We consider this an advantage.

Instead of being tied to a particular brokerage structure, we work with experienced and reputable brokers, owners and maritime professionals selected according to the requirements of each shipment and trade lane.

Years of chartering experience allow us to know where to approach the market, which counterparties to trust and where additional caution is required.

Throughout the process, our position remains clear:

We represent the commercial interests of our client.

We review proposed terms, challenge conditions where necessary and negotiate with the objective of achieving the most appropriate overall fixture — not simply concluding a deal.

Particular Expertise in Dry Bulk

Dry bulk chartering has become an important part of Veritas’ maritime expertise, particularly through our mineral trading activities.

For cargoes sold on a CFR basis, ocean freight becomes an integral part of the commercial result rather than a separate logistics expense.

This makes vessel selection and freight negotiation especially important.

Through years of managing mineral exports, including regular shipments to Black Sea destinations and Ukraine, we have developed practical experience in evaluating vessels, negotiating freight and charter-party terms, coordinating loading operations and following voyages through to completion.

We understand that a small difference in freight or an overlooked contractual condition can significantly affect the profitability of a bulk cargo transaction.

For this reason, each fixture receives senior-level attention.

From Market Enquiry to Final Completion

Our involvement can extend throughout the complete chartering process.

Depending on the transaction, Veritas can coordinate market enquiries, vessel evaluation, freight negotiations, charter-party terms, fixture and post-fixture follow-up, loading coordination, voyage monitoring and final operational reconciliation.

Where specialist brokerage support is required, we appoint and work directly with trusted brokers while remaining closely involved in the commercial decision-making process.

This structure gives our clients access to specialist market resources without losing the direct involvement and accountability of Veritas.

Protecting the Client Beyond the Freight Rate

The cheapest vessel is not necessarily the best vessel.

An unsuitable ship, unreliable counterparty, unrealistic laycan or poorly negotiated charter-party condition can rapidly eliminate any advantage achieved through a lower freight rate.

Our responsibility is therefore to look beyond the initial quotation.

We consider operational reliability, contractual exposure and the potential financial consequences of the fixture alongside the freight level itself.

For Veritas, successful chartering means achieving the right balance between cost, reliability and commercial risk.

Maritime Expertise With Direct Accountability

Chartering is an area where experience matters most when the situation stops being routine.

Weather delays, port congestion, berth restrictions, documentation issues, demurrage exposure or unexpected operational developments often require decisions to be made quickly.

In these circumstances, our clients deal directly with people who understand both shipping operations and the commercial transaction behind the voyage.

That direct access is an important part of the Veritas model.

We do not simply arrange transportation.

We remain involved until the voyage is commercially and operationally completed.
